What did you do before starting Mood Lagos, and how did your journey lead you here?

“Mood wasn’t always Mood,” Oluwanisola shares. “It was previously Atmosphere Rooftop. That’s where I started, as a hostess.”

She joined the team in 2020 and quickly moved up the ranks. “Six months in, I became a floor supervisor. Impressive one, actually, if I do say so myself.”

Now, as the general manager, she leads a team of over sixty people. “I do everything I need to do to make sure restaurant operations are running seamlessly and our customers are satisfied.”

From hiring and training to profitability and experience management, Oluwanisola is deeply involved across departments.

What’s the thinking behind the design of this space?

Mood Lagos sits atop a shopping mall, which makes the surprise even more delightful. “We wanted you to walk in and be positively surprised. The fittings, the lights, the wood. We thought about how to make this space comfortable and memorable.”

But while the aesthetics catch attention, it’s the food that keeps people coming back.

“One of the things that makes Mood stand out is that our food is very consistent and it’s great. You could come back in a year and our grilled fish? Awesome. Our abula? Still awesome.”

What excites you about visiting a new restaurant, aesthetics or the food?

“Aesthetics can be great,” she admits, “but if it’s not backed up with something that keeps you coming back, people will go elsewhere. Places are popping up every other day in Lagos. What keeps our customers returning is the quality of our food and drinks. Definitely food. I’ll always choose food.”

What excites you most about Mood’s future?

“I hope Mood continues to be what it is and even better. Expansion, with or without me, would be great. But most of all, I hope we’re still known for excellent customer service in hospitality, not just in Lagos but across Nigeria.”
